What is an NFT?

In the most terrifying way that you can find.

Brief:
  • The main applications of NFT in practical life are easy to understand and without the hassle people talk about on the internet all day.

Disclosure: Alright, listen up folks! I could have avoided clickbait, but let's be real, you wouldn't be here if I didn't. So, it's all on you, and now I gotta do this crazy stuff. Make it worth it, okay?

So, you've got this thing called NFT, right? It's like the sweetheart of Web3, but some regular humans out there absolutely hate it. NFT, Nifty, Non-Fungible Token—so many names, it'll drive you bonkers! But fear not, my friends, we've got your back. We've gathered all the juicy info about NFTs and what might go down once they take over the world. Buckle up, 'cause you're in for a wild ride, and next time someone babbles about Non-Fungible Tokens, you'll be cool as a cucumber!

Technically,

NFTs are records in a database and nothing more - like your Social Security Number or your lottery ticket. The difference is that, in this case, it's an ultra-secure record. Almost impossible to hack, really.

There are a lot of other technical implications for this, but...

Ah... forget about it.

Popularly,

NFT is a bunch of idiots buying .jpg stickers (And, in a way, people are right.)

There are a lot of folks who screwed themselves by buying NFTs, and another bunch who got pretty rich too. The latter, by the way, are enjoying life in the Bahamas while you're snooping around famous people's lives on Instagram stories.

There's an idiot for all kind of things.

Ideologically,

it's the key to a more equal society since, with NFTs, we can own the digital content we publish. So, instead of filling Instagram's owner's pockets with money, you can pocket it all for yourself, or fill other people's pockets as long as some cash ends up in yours too.

Artistically,

NFTs are records of authenticity for digital artworks, and with them, digital artists can now sell their creations to the whole world.

Is there a lot of garbage sold as NFT Art? Yes.

There's garbage sold in all kinds of ways, bro. We don't need technology for that.

Study about art, become a better person, and learn to distinguish shit from good stuff.

DeFilly,

NFTs are expected to completely transform our financial lives because their technology allows us to transact money without having to go through a bank. It may sound crazy, but the change is significant, just like our shift from signed checks to Apple Pay.

Technically speaking, this has more to do with fungible tokens than non-fungible tokens, but let's leave those boring details to those freaky folks who keep talking about it on the internet every day.

Mythologically,

NFTs came to ensure your complete freedom thanks to the self-custody of your financial assets.

(In other words, with no one putting their hands in our pockets, we will be free forever.)

Well, the last myth that came around here wanted to quit the Covid pandemic by giving chloroquine to an emu.

I won't even discuss it.

Next.

Degenerately,

NFTs are financial assets traded on a type of "digital stock exchange" where, just like in traditional stock exchanges, people become very rich or very poor every day.

This universe is called Degen Culture, and yes, there are plenty of breadwinners supporting their families with this stuff. Enjoy responsibly, Keep Calm and Vida Loka.

Gamerwisely,

NFTs are used for purchasing weapons, skills, and skins in video games in a way that they belong to us and not to Sony, Microsoft, or Steam. This way, you can sell your skills to other players or switch platforms while taking everything with you to wherever you want to play.

It's awesome, but the gaming community hates it because they don't understand a damn fucking thing about that.

Religiously,

NFTs are the devil's work. Joan of Arc was too, and you saw what happened, right? After dying in flames, she became a saint. NFTs seem to be heading down the same path.

Ticketly,

NFTs can become the perfect ticket for all kinds of places and events. From a Guns N' Roses concert at Rock in Rio to a college ID or company badge. The advantages are extremely high security, transparency, and ease of transaction control. The disadvantage is the bunch of haters grumbling on the internet afterward.

SUSly,

NFTs are currently used to register all our medical data in the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS). All our vaccination cards, for example, are now stored using this technology, and the Digital ID in Brazil follows the same path.

The only issue is if you try to forge 60 vaccination records to enter the USA illegally on your family vacation to Disney. Well, if you do it my brother... just imagine a real mess.

Metaversically,
NFTs are all kinds of things we can use or sell in the metaverse. Your home, land, furniture, clothes, accessories, cars, access tickets... Everything you can have, buy or sell in these digital universes is registered in NFTs.

Notarelly,

NFTs replace all our physical documents with ultra-secure and transparent digital versions. Birth certificates, property deeds, notarizations, accounting records – everything can be recorded online and authenticated by machines whenever necessary. If done correctly, we will never again need to notarize a document at a registry office or translate a diploma for international use, as systems worldwide will be able to "communicate with each other" and authenticate our access wherever needed. If mishandled, it may solve some problems but create others. Let's pray.

Amusingly,

NFTs are one of the most revolutionary and stigmatized technologies we have ever created. They reflect our time, both in their transformative power and our incredible ability to get lost in nonsense.

If you're as foolish as I am, educate yourself.

Learn about and broaden your perspectives. Our lives and professions are being heavily impacted by this and other technologies.

If you're as smart as the folks in Instagram stories, save the planet.

Let's Fucking Go. 👊🏼
